What is osteopathic manual therapy?
Osteopathic manual therapy is a holistic, hands-on approach to treating pain and dysfunction that focuses on restoring proper function and movement within the body.
It is based on the understanding that all systems of the body operate together to create and sustain health. Osteopathy views the body as a whole and aims to identify and treat the source of the pain and dysfunction rather than the symptoms with the goal of providing permanent rehabilitation.
What to expect?
An osteopathic treatment begins with a specific assessment to identify the underlying causes of the pain and dysfunction. This is achieved by taking a thorough medical history and by performing a postural assessment, orthopedic and other manual tests.
Treatment is based on this assessment and consists of gentle manipulation of the skeletal system, soft tissues (muscle, ligaments, tendons, and fascia), the viscera (organs), and the craniosacral system.
